The Art Card Explosion prompt/sponsor window is closed! Now I'll be working on the cards! I'm leaving this post open so folks can ask questions and read over what I'm working on. :) Thank you for participating!
Now it is time for the Art Card Explosion!
"What is that?" you may ask. I will tell you.
First of all, please read over how this works before jumping in. This is not Icon Day nor an "all requests get drawn" event, but there is a chance to win free art. :O
Second of all, ART CARDS! Art cards, ACEOs (Art Cards: Editions and Originals), ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) or sketch cards are all 2.5" x 3.5", trading-card sized, collectable miniature bits of art. They are awesome, and many people are in on the awesome hobby of collecting them. ATCs refer to cards which are only traded among artists, and the term ACEO was coined to differentiate original cards and prints which are offered up for sale.
I love making art cards. I want to make a whole bunch of them. They're fantastic because they allow me to turn ideas into drawings in a fast way. I get in a lot of practice, and build up a nice, satisfying little stack of cards while I work. While still small, they allow a lot more room and flexibility than icons. So, I decided to restructure an art card sale I did a couple years ago, and am turning it into the Art Card Explosion.
Prompts! At the bottom of this post will be a link to a second post for leaving me prompts. You are invited to leave as many prompts as you would like. There's a theme and some guidelines. Within those limits, go nuts.
Here are the guidelines:
- All prompts must be all-ages appropriate.
- All prompts must not contain specific characters. A description of the sort of character you'd like to see is awesome. But, this is not for your personal characters, portraits of you, your pets or famous people, fan art, video game characters, etc. This is for original creations based on your prompts.
- Likewise, prompts shouldn't be set in the world of an existing media property.
- If I choose your prompt, I retain the rights to the image I create. I make no claim to the prompt itself, though.
- Generally, one character fits on an art card, and two fit if the focus is on the characters and not a background scene or complex action.
- Leaving a prompt does not guarantee you an art card. Read below!
Here is the theme:
FANTASY ADVENTURE. That's it. Run with it.
Get an Art Card and Other Perks - This is what the prompts are for. I would like to crowdfund this set of art cards. You can leave a tip, and there are perks. Some of those incentives are art you get to keep, some are access to in-progress updates, and some are the unlocking of prizes for folks who leave prompts, whether or not they tipped.
Art Card for You - For $10, you will receive the original art of one art card. The prompt will be selected by me, and my choice of card will be a surprise until it arrives in your mailbox in its little, plastic art card sleeve. You can sponsor as many surprise art cards as you like.
For $20, you can pick the prompt for your art card. It can even be your own prompt, if you like, or you can sponsor someone else's prompt, if you're fond of it. The prompt you choose is subject to my approval, in case someone's trying to sneak in dragon butts or Zelda or something.
My usual price for custom art cards featuring your character/s is $30. If you'd like to commission one as a part of the Explosion, I will add the price to the tally, but please email me before sending funds, so I can approve the commission first.
Explosion! - This is where the EXPLOSION part comes in. Tips and prompts will trigger more cards! If your prompt is selected to become an art card, you will get an email with a sneaky peek of that card when it is created, and your name will go on THE LIST. To start, I will be randomly selecting five people from the list to get a free art card drawn based on surprise prompts. The folks whose prompts are selected will then be added to the list, for potential random selection.
The tip tally will determine how many more people get selected from the list. And thus, we will have an explosion of cards. Hopefully. This is an experiment. We're doin' science.
Controlled Blast - I have no idea how big of an art card explosion this will be. This will run from today until I wake up on Saturday morning, but if I feel as if I'm reaching my limits on what I can get done in a reasonable amount of time, I'll cut things off early.
How long the project takes will depend on the amount of cards. I'll add them to my work schedule, and post progress updates as I go.
Tip Tally
$0 - everyone who tips or makes a card sponsorship purchase, who provides me with their livejournal username will be placed on a custom filter to allow access to sneak preview updates of each card as it is completed. The cards will not be posted publicly until the set is completed.
$100 -if tips and card sponsorship purchases reach this amount, Incentive level reached. Five more people who left prompts will be selected to receive free cards.
$200 -if tips and card sponsorship purchases reach this amount, Incentive level reached. Five more people who left prompts will be selected to receive free cards. Also, folks who tip or purchase art cards, who provide me with their email address will be given sekrit password access to periodic ustream sessions where I work on the cards. Not all the cards will pop up on the stream, but we'll have fun.
$300 -if tips and card sponsorship purchases reach this amount, Incentive level reached. Five more people who left prompts will be selected to receive free cards.
If we go over that, I'll look at how much work I have on my plate, and decide on some more perks. Let's see what happens!
Instructions for sponsoring a card - when you use the paypal (you don't need a paypal account to use it. It will also take a credit or debit card), there will be an opportunity to leave a comment. In your comment, make sure you include your contact email (especially if different from your paypal email) and your livejournal username (if you'd like to be on the sneak preview filter). If you're sponsoring a specific prompt, include a link to it. If you're getting an art card of your character and have discussed it with me in email, include a little note to let me know that's your card. Make sure your account has your up-to-date mailing address, or include that in your note, as well.
Instructions for leaving a prompt - For each prompt, include your email address or preferred contact method, and then your prompt. You can leave multiple prompts in the same comment, or as separate comments.
Feel free to leave any comments and questions you have on this post.
